For the 2018-19 winter, we partnered with Mt. Baker Ski Area and our sister title, The Ski Journal, on a photo contest called Artist Point and Shoot. Hosted on the @artistpointandshoot Instagram, we asked folks to upload their best imagery from Mt. Baker in real time and handed out monthly prizes for our favorite shots. More than 400 photos came in, and at the end of the year, fans voted for their favorites while an overall winner was chosen by our esteemed panel of judges. In the end, Che Contreras earned a Mt. Baker season pass for the above photo of Dan Scanlon, shown here along with a pole-cam snap Che took of himself last winter. Che used his iPhone 7 to capture the contest’s winning shot, which goes to show that you don’t need high-end gear to create compelling images. Rather, you just need to be there to capture the moment.
