“2023 was a record year across the Sierra Nevada, CA. During March, it was almost impossible to get into Mammoth. U.S. Route 395 North had been closed for weeks due to multiple avalanches taking out the road, and 395 South felt like it had been closed more than open due to massive storms. Somehow Marissa Krawczak timed her trip there perfectly, arriving on the first sunny day in weeks. We sessioned some amazing conditions for a few days, then she snuck out of town right before another atmospheric river unloaded on the area, shutting everything down again.” Photo: Andrew Miller FEATURES PROFILE Perfectly Strange At Home with Irie Jefferson Words: Ben Shanks Kindlon ADVENTURE Arid Horizons in Northern Chile Words: Marissa Krawczak LOCALE Ideal Scenarios in the Sierra Nevada Words: Elena Hight, Jeremy Jones and Nick Russell PROFILE Bode Merrill ForgOes the Formula Words: Harrison Gordon GALLERIE What Matters Most for Tyler Ravelle Words: Colin Wiseman DEPARTMENTS UP TOP Fire and Waterslides MASTHEAD Cruxing NOTES Be Cool ARTIFACT Cascadian Ascent YODEL Below the Rim NEW FAVORITE PERSON Bambi REWIND No Slide LINES Imaginary Peaks CONTRIBUTORS Endless Potential FLY BY Masterly Fitted MEDIA REVIEW Extra Medium FLY BY Salted Corn YODEL A Lot of Faith CODA Shoot the Moon
