Chris Bertram
With more than 20 years of experience in the world of human performance, Dr. Chris Bertram teaches some of the greatest athletes in the world how to maximize learning, build resilience and optimize performance under pressure. Residing in Chilliwack, BC, Chris spends his time immersed in the mountains, in the ocean, or chasing flow in the endless natural spaces of Canada’s west coast. Chris works as an associate professor at the University of the Fraser Valley, the Senior Director of Applied Neuroscience at Exos and as Flow Coach for Snowboard Canada.
Shawn Kalatucka
Shawn Kalatucka hails from Asbury, the farmland portion of New Jersey. He currently resides in East Stroudsburg, PA, where he works as a freelance photographer specializing in real estate, short-term rentals and snowboard photography at Mountain Creek and Big Snow. His photography journey began at Big Boulder PARK (RIP) in Pennsylvania from 2016-2020 and led him to create his own photography business in spring 2017. Annette Veihelmann
Originally from Berlin, Annette Veihelmann moved to the United States after high school to study at Bellingham, WA’s Western Washington University. There, she quickly fell in love with the Pacific Northwest’s natural beauty, people, snowboarding and surfing. After earning her bachelors in graphic design in 2000, she started working for Mervin Manufacturing as a graphic designer and has been with them ever since. Nowadays, she lives in Port Angeles, WA, with her partner Pete and their children Hoko and Ailo. When she’s not juggling pixels, she thoroughly enjoys their proximity to the mountains and the ocean with her family and friends.
David Vladyka
David Vladyka was born in Lausanne, Switzerland, and now resides in nearby Val-d’Illiez. He has been working with Absinthe Films for over two decades, filming riders like Wolle Nyvelt, Romain De Marchi and more. Connor Wood
An ecologist by trade, Connor Wood is a snowboarder at heart. Growing up outside Chicago, Connor began snowboarding at 13 years old, riding the many hills of the Midwest. After college, he spent a year working in a snowboard/bike shop in Vermont before going to graduate school, ultimately earning a doctorate in wildlife ecology. He finally managed to merge his two passions via a project he describes in this issue (see “The Yosemite Toad and the Invisible Mountains of the Sierra Nevada” on page 054). He currently lives in Ithaca, NY, where he works as a researcher at the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics, part of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
