TUNED IN
AT THE CELLULAR LEVEL, our bodies are constantly in transition. Every cell is building, dying, regenerating—we are not static beings, but in a perpetual state of renewal. This applies to inanimate objects as well. Your car, your house, even this journal you’re holding started changing at a microscopic level the moment it left the printing press. These atomic vibrations are measured by their frequencies, which vary based on the material.
When Jeff and Jessie Lu Galbraith, Chris Brunkhart, Jamie Lynn, Ari Marcopolous and a host of co-conspirators first came together to create frequency The Snowboarder’s Journal in 2001, they took the name from the idea that The Snowboarder’s Journal would tap into a cultural frequency—a wavelength broadcasting through our tribe. It did, and it continues to do so a decade-and-a-half onwards.
During those 15 years, this title has gone through some changes—some subtle, only noticeable in the minutiae, and some broad-reaching. But it’s always remained the independent, true voice of snowboarding.
This year, you’ll notice some alterations. There’s a new logo, a simplification of our cover design, and a new website at thesnowboardersjournal.com, along with a fresh wave of digital content spearheaded by the visual narrative of new addition and Director of Audio Visual Productions Liam Gallagher. Associate Editor Ben Shanks Kindlon will be leading the charge when it comes to producing fresh and exclusive web features, along with Associate Art Director and digital design specialist Jessica De Boer. Backing it all will be our core crew of the past decade-plus and a host of contributors, both old and new. The backbone of the program will remain the same: a product of unmatched quality with an authentic voice.
We’ve matured over the years, and we continue to evolve and refresh our vision while staying true to the soul of snowboarding. Welcome to year 15 of The Snowboarder’s Journal—we’re still tuned into that cultural frequency.
