Me riding a little hill at the Baxendell compound in 1981 or ’82. Doug and I had just finished those boards and wanted to get a product shot. Pictured are two swallowtail Vectors and an Omega double kick. I think these were plastic shells. We built a crazy oven press contraption to cure them, and they featured a full-length laminated wood and fiberglass deck. I still love the way they rode and plan on building a modern version with those base contours this season to see if it still performs like it did back then. The bindings on the Vectors were some bent aluminum pieces with wetsuit foam and Fastec buckles. It had a neoprene rubber “highback,” but at the time we didn’t realize that if we had made it out of a rigid plastic, it would have helped greatly. Special thanks to Grell and Louis Fournier for that idea. Photo: DeLost Archives 036 THE SNOWBOARDER’S JOURNAL
