TOP TO BOTTOM The Alps act as a storm barricade and even have the power to create and adjust large-scale weather systems. It was dumping wet and thick one night in town with no signs of letting up. The forecast claimed a few feet of snow with windblown conditions in the mountains. The next day anything from one inch on ice to 20 inches of bottomless blower could be found. One weather day, we hiked this mound of snow directly under the chairlift while people yelled and cheered.
