CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT Mikey doing what he dœs best. He’s is a positive guy who’s always down to help, whether it’s with fishing or making dinner. Trips like these are so much more fun when everyone is down to earth and human. The first day we surfed. We would approach these spots by boat and see the back of the wave, which makes it hard to tell what they’re doing. You have to suit up and go, and from the back a wave usually looks smaller. Mikey doing a layback snap. Everyone on the trip was a good surfer, but it’s one thing to be good at surfing and another to be a professional. On Austen’s first wave he was frothing, but he found the bottom pretty quickly. Didn’t break the wetsuit, but broke skin and took one for the team during the first few minutes of the trip. Austen, Red and Bryan. On the beach is our friend Dario from Tofino, and Mikey is in the water. Beyond them are gigantic trees in the water, whales, bears on the beach, bald eagles overhead—it’s the definition of wild. VANCOUVER ISLAND 095
