COVER “Jon Stark found this massive bridge located in the majestic fjords of Narvik, Norway on Google Maps. But the snow conditions were not ideal, to say the least. The region had been hit with rain and wet snow, followed by freezing temperatures. The landing was steep, rocky, and icy. There was four inches of snow in the forecast that night. We showed up the next day to what looked like less than an inch of snow on top of a brick landing. Was it worth it? Louif Paradis hiked up to the concrete take-off and started shaping it. He poked a couple methods and then said, ‘I’ll try front 3.’ I was tripping, but I knew Louif can do anything when he puts his mind to it.” Photo: Joseph Roby UP TOP From pipe to powder, Danny Davis is a certified ATV—seen here coming out of a cloud in Arlberg, Austria, while shooting for his recent film, ARK . Mason Lemery had to hold his heel edge across a very steep slope with thin coverage, then pop hard to clear a few rocks. He laced it, then went back up for another, just to be sure. The kid’s got juice.” Photo: Colin Wiseman 03 “Jamie Anderson took a chance and booked a week with Alaska Back-country Guides in July 2021 for spring 2022. She took the gamble and won, enjoying six fly days with endless lines. Here she is ripping the Wishbone Spines near Valdez.” Photo: Justin Befu 08 04 Jacob Krugmire works through the kinks with a frontside 5050 amid a late December storm in Seattle, WA. During these camps I am running around the pipe for at least a couple days in a row, which allows me to try out new techniques. This one was shot through my goggle lenses. It took a few tries to get that exact reflection. Shoutout US Snowboard Team for always sending me to these camps.” Photo: Mike “Dawsy” Dawson “Blake Geis keeping himself occupied in-between tries by shovel sledding down a hill in St. Paul, MN. Didric Lothe hit this long creeper and I was able to capture it on my Hassleblad Xpan using Portra 400 film.” Photo: Chris Baldry “The crew at Laax, Switzerland was working on a short film for the resort and wanted night shots of Hitsch Haller and Nicholas Wolken in the halfpipe. They had a huge crane rig on the side of the pipe with a ridiculous cine camera mounted on it. It was a cold, crystal clear night and there was a lot of waiting and standing around for the gear to be set up properly. But once we got rolling, Nicholas’ pipe carves (seen here) and Hitsch’s methods were in the bag within a few tries.” Photo: Aaron Schwartz 07 Moritz Thönen has a big bag of tricks, especially on jumps. But for this hit in Grindelwald, Switzerland he opted for the tried-and-true backflip. A solid choice.
