Whether it’s an alley-oop (seen here) or a simple lay down, Nico’s halfpipe ‘tricks’ often take place below the coping. But Nico’s pipe riding is certainly more than just mere variations of turning in a tube. I’m constantly taken aback by his surf-inspired approach of cruising the tall walls of the pipe with such casual ease and effortless flow, always with timeless style and never forceful. His philosophy of pipe riding gave way to a gathering in Laax during the Tidal Art Show week in April 2023, an event we called the ‘Korua Tidal Wave,’ which will happen again in spring 2024. Riders of all levels were welcomed to surf the pipe below the coping, under the decor of handmade waves and, in this particular image, the watchful eyes and iPhone of our friend Theo Acworth.” Photo: Aaron Schwartz
