CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT Nicholas Wolken, Laax, Switzerland. Nico on his last legs during the final carving sessions for Neon Noir. We’d been pushing hard trying to make the most of the sub-par conditions in Europe late in the season during a relatively short time frame we had with filmer Eliel Hindert, so the dogs were definitely barking. But in true Nico style he aimed to “stay low and look fast” and succeeded, and what came of those days ended up being a large part of the final segment of the film. Nicholas Wolken, Laax, Switzerland. A few laps after a sunrise shoot in Laax, we took advantage of the still low position of the sun casting long shadows on the mountain. The powder in the pipe was chopped up but the top of the wall was smooth enough for some turns. Nicholas doesn’t miss on these. Lars Popp, Lake Tahoe, CA. On one of our many days at Sugar Bowl Resort this past February, we ventured down the backside of Donner Summit to check out the tunnels and experimented with some slow shutter, running sequences that may or may not find their way into our next film, Yearning For Turning 11. Stay tuned for its release this fall and potentially seeing this frame in motion. Lars Popp, Laax, Switzerland. Lars getting low during the filming of IIXI , which we made with Morgan Maassen in 2022. Fun fact: on the many gondola rides of this morning we all discovered our secret love for Katy Perry, and her song “Dark Horse” with Juicy J became the most played track for the rest of the season. Forrest Shearer, Somewhere, Switzerland. Forrest visited us in Switzerland for a few days in April 2022, while we were filming for IIXI . On this particular splitboard mission Nicholas forgot his plate bindings and ended up having to ski downhill while Forrest and I enjoyed exploring the unique landscapes of the Swiss Alps.
