“While traveling in Japan for KidsKNOW’s ‘Burning Bridges’ [2005] we found this insane dirt feature right off the side of the road on the way to the resort from the city. We passed it every day on the way to the mountain and all would mention how cool it would be to film it. It was almost the last day of the trip and Marc Frank Montoya had won a rail jam. After, we were whisked off to the Sapporo night life. We walked out of the club, and all were stunned to see the sun was coming up. On the way home we passed the feature and Marco said ‘Damn, I need to hit that thing. Wake me up in a couple hours and let’s do this!’ “We all passed out and woke up to Marco yelling ‘Everybody up and get your gear on, it’s go time!’ We were all so beat but found ourselves at the spot at about 4 p.m. knowing the sun would go down in just one hour. Marco stuffed a filet of fish sandwich from McDonald’s in his mouth and headed to the top cursing the fact he got us all out of bed and that the dirt cliff was about two times the size he had thought it was. ‘Oh well, there is no backing out now’…the rest is history.”
