In the late ’80s, as snowboarding’s freestyle revolution was just taking hold, “Euro carvers” Jean Nerva and Peter Bauer held their line. Known as much for their perpendicular on-piste antics as their far-out big mountain descents in the Alps, Andes and beyond, the duo cut their own path. Although hardboots and asymmetrical alpine boards had fallen mostly out of fashion by the mid ’90s, a recent resurgence of nuanced edge control shows that the pair’s approach was timeless—as displayed here in 1992 by the late, great Nerva in Las Leñas, Argentina.
