“What a lot of people don’t know about Victoria Jealouse is that before she ever strapped into a snowboard, she was one of the fastest women in Canada on skis. It was natural that when she started snowboarding, she gravitated towards hard boots and carving. Upon moving into the freeride community of Whistler, BC, she took that carving mastery to more varied terrain. Most people remember Victoria for her seemingly fearless approach to big faces in Alaska, and how she set the bar for many who came after her. In some ways her riding is still the high mark. For some of us though, none of that matters if you haven’t got a sweet method in your back pocket. Victoria had that in her bag of tricks too, as seen here in Methven, New Zealand, circa 1998.” Photo: Dano Pendygrasse
