This shot of Manuel Diaz might be my favorite image that I have ever taken. It’s a hard claim, but I am obsessed with spines. I shot this hanging out of a helicopter next to Absinthe Films director Justin Hosytnek while shooting for Fruition and Absinthe’s Eversince . As a snowboard photographer, the holy grail of shooting was and is up in AK, hanging out of the heli around spines. I learned so much just observing how Justin shoots in the heli. It’s super hectic, expensive, and easy to blow it, but if you do it right you can come home with the best shots of your life. Sometimes it’s not just about the action, but the moments before. Here, Manuel contemplates life before dropping into a very complex spine maze.
